But we need our lawyers and our politicians to understand programming, to understand what can be done with a computer.

Athens Legal Tech (ALT) is a non-profit and independent initiative of professionals and academics aiming at exploring, debating and actively influencing some of the most critical issues at the intersection of law and technology.

We firmly believe that the challenges arising from the extensive digitisation of modern societies require new legal approaches.

In ALT we analyze opportunities, challenges and threats from the use of new technologies, we encourage the adaptation of new legal doctrines and we heat up the discussion on how technology could improve regulation.

Through interdisciplinary cooperation, we focus on obtaining a spherical approach on the core issues the global community is facing and in particular:

  • How law affects the development of technology
  • Ηow technology influences the application of law and shapes the agenda of the future regulations
  • How the legal systems should interact with the application of current and future technologies.

Without limiting our interest on any breakthrough technology that influences the current legal status quo, as a starting point we choose to give priority to five major areas:

  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Legal Tech
  • Cybersecurity
  • Internet of Things
  • Big Data
